Our virtual 'Thumb' spoke to Ginger the Founder of 8-Bit Evolved Gaming:
So what has been happening during Lock-Down with the gaming events?
"So during Lock-down 2020 our Gaming events have been moved to online only and have all been FREE. Sadly this has only been available for our older previously registered Gamers. This is just because many of the games that are accessible such as Jackbox are all aimed at the older gamer."
What other issues has there been?
"Getting everyone on steam or on the same console, on the same game, at the same time are extremely difficult. We have tried a number of things, from live streaming, or just gaming with those who can access the games we have looked to play.
I would have liked to have seen more from the BIG 3 in Gaming; - Nintendo, Xbox and PS in terms of more help with social gaming for couch coop gamers. Some of the best social couch coop games have to be played in the same room or on a live account in a multiplayer. ‘Super Smash Bros Ultimate’ for example, is only available on the switch. Many of our participants love playing the game at the events we run as they do not have a switch or do not have the game or the Nintendo subscription.
The fact is, that not every gamer who attends the sessions has the same consoles and games as are accessible on the 8-Bit Evolved Gaming events.
Would 8-Bit Evolved Gaming liked to have maybe, been in a position to purchase and distribute consoles and games to those who did not have them?
"What an amazing thing that would have been to do. We did think about distributing some of the things we have but we simply do not have enough or enough copies of the same games. I did contact Xbox and the others for Free games passes but it wasn't very forthcoming. As a creator of a not-for-profit event unfortunately we just cannot afford to purchase and distribute to our participants."
What are the games you were able to use?
"At the moment we have had a lot of fun playing on games like Team Fortress 2 and Jackbox.TV, we purchased several of the series including the game Drawful. These games are easy to work with as they require a stream from the Xbox and then the participants log in on their browsers."
So what is next on Lock-down ?
"I am positive that things will get better soon as the Covid-19 crisis is subsiding and that there is the possibility of light at the end of the tunnel. We have been making our own Quizzes and Art games too and recording, which will be on our channel soon. We are also planning to play more games that have crossover capability next. Such as COD Warfare online, which was free to download on PS, Xbox and PC. In addition we are hoping to reignite with our younger 'gamers' for some fun sessions as well, we really do not want them to miss out."
and the future?
"We are hoping to getting back to running our gaming events in the late summer early Autumn, this may be a bit ambitious. However, we really want to plan just in case things work out."
